Patient meals

PCH's kitchen will provide all of your child's meals during their stay.

Please tell the nurse if your child has any special dietary requirements, such as food allergies or intolerances or religious observances (e.g. Kosher, Halal).  Meals are distributed at the following times each day:
  • Breakfast: 7:30am - 8.00am
  • Lunch: 11:30am - 12pm
  • Dinner: 4:30pm - 5:30pm

If your child needs to fast for a period before a medical procedure your nurse will tell you.

Please do not offer food or drinks to other children on the ward in case they are fasting or have allergies.

We recommend that patients only eat and drink the food provided by the hospital and not anything that is brought in from home or other places. Please read the Bringing food into hospital brochure for more information.

Breakfast packs are provided to parents or carers staying overnight with their child. Lunch and dinner is only given to admitted postnatal mothers and those whose infants are fully breastfed.

Patient meal ordering

You can select your child's meal from an electronic menu using the Patient Meal Ordering System (PMOS) via the Patient Entertainment System (PES) in their room. The menu items offered depend on your child's diet and allergy requirements, which were entered at admission. You can order breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks via PMOS. A notice will pop up on the PES screen to remind you to order but if you forget or unable to place an order, a suitable 'meal of the day' will still be delivered.

As well as the PMOS, the PES includes educational programs, hospital and patient information, free to air television and games, Radio Lollipop and Starlight Children’s Foundation TV.

PCH has a number of on-site healthy food services and places to eat, including the Food Hall on Level 1, Supernatural on Level 5 as well as Little Lion Coffee and vending machines on the Ground Floor. For more information, see Food and retail.
