Who we are

The PCH Dermatology Department provides specialist inpatient and outpatient services for children and adolescents with complex skin, nail and hair conditions.

Conditions we manage

We see children and young people with a range of dermatological issues, including rarer conditions which may be present at birth or develop later in childhood. Some conditions we manage include:

  • Atopic dermatitis (eczema)
  • Haemangiomas
  • Skin infections including impetigo, complicated molluscum contagiosum and complex ringworm
  • Birthmarks
  • Psoriasis
  • Acne
  • Keratosis Pilaris

Services we provide

We provide specialist inpatient and outpatient dermatological diagnosis, treatment and surgical services to children, and work with other medical teams to deliver multidisciplinary care.  

Outpatient services include

  • General dermatology clinic
  • Pulsed dye laser service (mainly used to treat vascular lesions)
  • Emergency dermatology clinic
  • Nurse-led clinics with our dermatology nurse practitioner  and clinical nurse specialist
  • Combined genetics dermatology clinic

Other services

  • Continued patient and family education and support
  • Telehealth appointments are available if identified as suitable by our dermatology team.

Referrals

All Specialist Rooms, GPs and WACHS referrers are being advised to direct all non-urgent referrals for PCH outpatient services to the Central Referral Service

Referrals from Nurse Practitioners, other non-medical referrers and private hospitals (including those with a private-public partnership) are to be directed to the PCH Referral Office.

New referrals will be assessed against the eligibility guidelines and prioritised according to medical need.

Urgent Referrals

  • All urgent referrals are to be sent to the PCH Referral Office.
  • Urgent referrals must always be discussed with the PCH Consultant / Registrar on call before the referral is sent.
  • The referral needs to include the name of the Consultant/ Registrar the referrer has spoken to
  • Each referral is to be faxed individually

PCH Pre-referral Guidelines

The PCH pre-referral guidelines are the suggested assessment and management measures that should be followed prior to referral to the PCH Outpatient department.

  • Monday mornings
  • Wednesday
  • Friday afternoons

Inpatients: Consultation services when needed.

Dermatology outpatient services are located in Clinic F on Level 1.
