From your child's initial treatment through to their ongoing rehabilitation, our care and support for inpatients and outpatients includes:

  • A specialist burns ward at PCH, including advanced infection control facilities and single rooms
  • Burns outpatient clinic
  • Scar management services
  • Telehealth service for acute and ongoing consultations and education in rural and remote areas
  • Working in partnership with other teams including the Intensive Care Unit, Operating Theatre and Emergency Department.

Referrals

New referrals for all patients who are appropriate for outpatient or Telehealth follow up must be emailed/phoned through to the Burns Service on 6456 2222 for advice and follow-up recommendations.

Within business hours
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will complete a Burns Referral Form and request for the referrer to complete an eReferral if one has not already been received. Alternatively, the Clinical Nurse Consultant will scan the appropriate information to the PCH Referral Office.

After-hours
The referring clinician is asked to phone the Ward 1B Shift Coordinator, who will then complete a Burns Referral Form. If the Shift Coordinator assesses the patient as requiring admission, the on-call Burns Registrar/Consultant will be immediately contacted for consultation. Otherwise, an outpatient appointment date and time will be provided for suitable patients. The Registrar and Shift Coordinator will request that the referrer completes an eReferral for the patient. Alternatively, the Clinical Nurse Consultant will scan the appropriate information to the PCH Referral Office.
