Virus WAtch is a weekly surveillance report produced by the Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD), WA Department of Health, in collaboration with key surveillance and laboratory partners. It provides an overview of circulating respiratory viruses, gastroenteritis and other vaccine-preventable diseases in Western Australia, drawing on sentinel general practice and hospital Emergency Department data, disease notifications, laboratory detections and wastewater surveillance. The report summarises trends in disease activity and circulating viruses to support public health surveillance, inform health professionals and identify emerging public health concerns.
Emergency Department data are provided by the Emergency Department Information System (EDIS).
Viral laboratory data are obtained from PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA, as well as notification data sent by all laboratories in WA to CDCD.
