Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) is gearing up to be filled with festive cheer this December as the Ground Level Atrium becomes a hub of festive activity.

From 1 to 16 December, families can enjoy Christmas decorations, choir performances and visits from Santa and other special guests.

While these celebrations aim to create a joyful atmosphere, PCH recognises that some children may find the sights and sounds overwhelming, particularly those who are sensitive to sensory input such as noise, bright lights or busy environments.

The Atrium will feature music, singing and decorations during this period.

To help families manage, we encourage visitors to plan ahead.

Families who prefer a quieter experience may wish to visit after 4pm or use alternative routes through the hospital, such as entering via the Emergency Department entrance and taking the Green Lifts to inpatient wards.

For outpatient appointments, families can opt to wait in a quieter space by using self-check-in kiosks and asking the clinic clerk to send a text message when the clinician is ready.

Options for quieter waiting spaces with less stimulation include the Northern Green Space, Kulunga Moort Mia or the Ronald McDonald Family Room.

Bringing comfort items like noise-cancelling headphones or sunglasses may also help make the visit more comfortable.

“Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment at PCH during the holiday season is a priority for us,” said Matthew Holmes, Director of Consumer Engagement.

“We are all here to support families and ensure their experience is as comfortable as possible.”

“If you need any assistance or adjustments during your visit, please don’t hesitate to let staff know.”
