Today a new Ronald McDonald Family Room will open within Fun on Four to deliver quality play and learning experiences for young patients and siblings, while offering a comforting and uplifting environment for parents and carers.
Following the departure of Perth Children's Hospital Foundation from the area, RMHC WA has redesigned and revitalised the space within Fun on Four, with the goal of an exceptional whole-of-family hospital experience supporting the wellbeing of young patients.
The new Ronald McDonald Family Room will feature a:
- Parents Retreat with comfortable seating for respite
- Coffee machine
- Arts & Crafts Zone
- Teen Den equipped with all of the latest video and arcade games
- Cinema Room
- Revitalised Book Bunker with enjoyable lounge area
- Soft Play and Toddler Zone
- Explorer’s Zone which includes STEM, sensory, construction and imaginative play
Each year almost 2,000 WA kids and families from across the state rely on the wrap-around service provided by RMHC WA, including its much-loved play and learning programs to support continued development and resilience of sick children and their families.
At Perth Children’s Hospital, RMHC WA provides supported accommodation on Level 5 at its Ronald McDonald House PCH and at its Nedlands House, which is within walking distance of the Hospital. Additionally, the Ronald McDonald Family Room on the Ground Level of PCH provides a comforting sanctuary for families to rest, reconnect and relax during hospital outpatient visits.
Adjacent to the Ronald McDonald Family Room is Kulunga Moort Mia (Noongar for Children’s Place), which is a culturally sensitive environment that provides the opportunity for families to laugh, learn, create and connect with Indigenous culture.
The Minister for Health and Mental Health, the Hon. Roger Cook MLA will officially open the new Ronald McDonald Room in Fun on Four on Tuesday 24 August 2021.
