Paediatric Critical Care

Who we are

Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) on Ward 3A at PCH offers a state-wide intensive care service for critically ill infants, children and young people. PCC comprises the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the High Dependency Unit (HDU). 

Parents and carers are welcome to visit their child on Ward 3A at any time. Relatives and friends may also visit with parent/carer permission, however visitors are limited to a maximum of two at a time.

Services we provide

PCH’s PCC is a centre for teaching and research in paediatric intensive care medicine and provides emergency outreach services including the Emergency Resuscitation team and the Medical Emergency Team. PCC staff are also an integral part of the hospital’s trauma team.

Our department features:

  • single rooms
  • negative pressure rooms with ante rooms
  • positive pressure rooms with ante rooms
  • quarantine room with ante room
  • double cardiac bays.

Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

The PICU provides care for critically ill and injured infants, children and adolescents, and those undergoing major surgery.

High Dependency Unit (HDU)

The High Dependency Unit provides care for patients who require close observation and monitoring but do not need to be admitted to intensive care.

Hours

24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Paediatric Critical Care is on Ward 3A on Level 3 (take the Green Lifts).
