Children's Cardiac Centre

Who we are

The Children’s Cardiac Centre at PCH is Western Australia’s only specialist care service for infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart conditions.
PCH’s Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiac Diagnostic Services teams are all part of the Children’s Cardiac Centre.

Conditions we manage

Our experts see children and teenagers with all forms of congenital and acquired heart disorders.

Examples of these conditions include:
  • Stenosis, or narrowing of blood vessels and other tissues in and around the heart
  • ‘Holes’ in the partitions (septums) between the heart chambers
  • Abnormal heart rhythms
  • Disorders involving the location or function of blood vessels
  • Diseases of the heart muscle, such as myocarditis and cardiomyopathy
  • Infectious diseases causing damage to the heart.

Services we provide

The Children’s Cardiac Centre provides services to both inpatients and outpatients, including:
  • Consultations
  • Cardiac diagnostic services, such as non-invasive tests, cardiac catheterisation and advanced interventional (non-surgical) procedures
  • Western Australia’s sole paediatric cardiothoracic surgical service, including a specialist team for complex neonatal cardiac surgery
The Centre also supports the Adult Congenital Heart Disease service of WA, including surgery for adults with congenital heart disease at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

How to refer

All Specialist Rooms, GP’s and WACHS referrers are being advised to direct all non-urgent referrals for PCH outpatient services to the Central Referral Service

Eligibility

  • New referrals will be assessed against the eligibility guidelines and prioritised according to medical need.
  • Referrals from Nurse Practitioners, other non-medical referrers and private hospitals (including those with a private-public partnership) are to be directed to PCH Referral Office.
