Gynaecology
Who we are
The Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) Gynaecology service provides specialty care for acute and non-acute gynaecology conditions in children up to the age of 16 years. The Gynaecology Department has a close collegiate relationship with the General Paediatric Surgery Department within the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS).
Gynaecological conditions in young people may be managed in conjunction with the adolescent gynaecology service at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH); this is assessed on a case-by-case basis and allocated according to clinical condition. Patients requiring continuity of care through their adolescent years may be transitioned to KEMH Complex Reproductive Gynaecology Service.
Services we provide
PCH may provide gynaecology services for:
- Unplanned gynaecological presentations requiring urgent admission to a Level 6 service including surgical presentations.
- Unplanned gynaecology presentations not requiring urgent, same day admission.
- Planned gynaecology patients that require clinical services at PCH.
- Patients requiring urogynaecology services in conjunction with the Department of General Paediatric Surgery.
- Patients requiring endocrinology services in conjunction with the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes.
- Patients requiring gynae-oncology services in conjunction with the Department of Oncology and Haematology and/or Department of General Paediatric Surgery.
- Patients with congenital gynaecological conditions in conjunction with the Departments of General Paediatric Surgery and/or Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes.

- Contraceptive counselling
- Fertility preservation
- Gender services
- Early/late puberty
- Gynaecological surgical problems and gynaecological endocrine conditions, in consultation with other specialist and health professionals at the hospital
PCH does not provide obstetric/gynaecology services for pregnant adolescents. Young people aged 16 years or less wanting to access pregnancy choices should be referred to the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) abortion care services. Young people wanting to continue with a pregnancy should be referred to the Young Women and Adolescent Antenatal Clinic at King Edward Memorial Hospital who care for pregnant people up to the age of 19 years.
Referrals
Our service for inpatients and emergency cases at PCH is by internal consultation only.
For outpatient clinic appointments we receive outpatient referrals from GPs and other external providers, and internal referrals from other PCH specialties via the Central Referral System and e-Referral system.
