General Surgery

Who we are

PCH’s General Paediatric Surgery department is Western Australia’s main referral centre for complex paediatric surgical conditions.

Our surgeons have paediatric surgical fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. We work closely with other doctors, nurses and allied health staff across all hospital departments as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Services we provide

Our surgeons provide comprehensive clinical services in the specialties of:
  • general paediatric surgery
  • neonatal surgery
  • oncological surgery (also see the Oncology and Haematology page)
  • urology
  • general thoracic surgery (also see the Cardiology page for information on PCH’s specialist cardiothoracic surgery services)
  • burns (also see the Burns page)
  • trauma
  • gastrointestinal surgery (also see the Gastroenterology page)
  • gynaecology (also see the Gynaecology page)
  • antenatal counselling.

The General Paediatric Surgery department provides care and consultations for inpatient and outpatients at PCH.

We also work closely with antenatal services at King Edward Memorial Hospital (external site) and we are actively involved with research and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

For more information on preparing for your child’s surgical procedure, please refer to the Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine page.

We accept referrals from GPs and other PCH specialties. Each referral will be assessed by a PCH General Surgery clinician and prioritised according to clinical need.

Inpatients: 24 hours a day, seven days a week

Outpatients: Business hours, Monday to Friday

Outpatient services for General Paediatric Surgery are held in Clinic C on the Ground Level.
