Paediatric Rehabilitation (Kids Rehab WA)

Who we are

PCH’s Paediatric Rehabilitation service (also known as Kids Rehab WA) is based on a model of interdisciplinary care and is staffed by a mix of healthcare professionals including:

  • Medical staff
  • Nursing 
  • Allied Health (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Dietetics, Speech Pathology, Allied Health Assistants)
  • Psychologists
  • Education and clinical researchers.

Services we provide

We provide rehabilitation services for children and adolescents with acquired or congenital neurological impairments (disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nerves). Our clinical services include:
  • Multi-day inpatient rehabilitation by the Rehabilitation Medicine Unit
    • Acute Care
    • Sub-Acute Care
  • iRehab Intensive Day Rehabilitation Program
  • Outpatient rehabilitation services
    • Ambulatory rehabilitation services, including day-case admissions for procedures such as Botulinum toxin 
    • Multidisciplinary clinics and other ambulatory rehabilitation services
  • Research 
    • The Kids Rehab WA Research Centre integrates education, research and training into all clinical programs and has access to clinical space for research assessments and interventions.
We provide clinical services under a number of program areas including:
  • Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Program
  • Cerebral Palsy Mobility Service (CPMS)
  • Complex Care Coordination
  • Congenital and Acquired Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Rehabilitation
  • Early Intervention Program 
  • Intensive Rehabilitation (iRehab) Service
  • Limb Difference Program
  • Neurorehabilitation – general neurological rehabilitation for complex tertiary patients. 
Our service also includes a dedicated research and education team.

Referrals

All Specialist Rooms, GP’s and WACHS referrers are being advised to direct all non-urgent referrals for PCH outpatient services to the Central Referral Service.

  • New referrals will be assessed against the eligibility guidelines and prioritised according to medical need.
  • Referrals from Nurse Practitioners, other non-medical referrers and private hospitals (including those with a private-public partnership) are to be directed to PCH Referral Office.
  • All urgent referrals are to be sent to the PCH Referral Office.
  • Urgent referrals must always be discussed with the PCH Consultant / Registrar on call before the referral is sent.
  • The referral needs to include the name of the Consultant/ Registrar the referrer spoke to.
  • Each referral is to be faxed individually.

We also accept emergency referrals from the PCH Emergency Department.

Hours

Inpatients: 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Outpatients: Monday to Friday, between 9.00am and 4.30pm.
