Palliative Care

Who we are

The WA Paediatric Palliative Care Service offers holistic and compassionate care to children and their families who live in Western Australia with a life-limiting condition.

Palliative Care is a unique clinical service that provides support to children, parents and carers, as well as clinical staff and community-based services.

Our team of doctor, nurses, social worker and secretary work closely with the child’s clinical team.

Services we provide

We aim to:
  • provide advice, support and liaison for children and families
  • help communication between families, their health providers and community services
  • provide specialist resources, education and support for health professionals caring for children with palliative care needs
  • provide advice regarding management of symptoms such as pain, breathing difficulties, nausea and many more
  • enable children with life-limiting illnesses to be cared for in the most appropriate place (such as the home or hospital).

Patients may be referred to Palliative Care by their treating clinician.
