Our performance

CAHS, including Mental Health, is accredited against the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.

Information on the 10 standards can be found at Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC).

We are also required to meet the National Standards for Mental Health Services, which provide direction on how mental health patients and their families should be looked after.

Measuring our performance

Information on the performance of Mental Health can be found on the My Hospitals website. Mental Health services are included within the performance data of the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) - Perth Children's Hospital.

There are three main agencies that measure and report on the performance of Mental Health:

Client informed consent

Informed consent is when patients are given all the necessary information to agree or not agree to being treated.

Informed consent is when a:
  • clinician has informed the patient or their carer about all of the patient's options
  • patient has been told (or has been given information) about the benefits and risks of the treatment
  • clinician has given all the necessary information and undertaken necessary steps to insure the patient or their carer can make a decision about their care or treatment.
  • For more information about informed consent visit OurHealth.org.

Keeping clients and families involved

Mental Health provides children, families and the community with information about safety and quality including:
  • waiting times for first appointments
  • which Mental Health services are being used most frequently
  • information about occurrences on acute inpatient wards.

Quality improvements

Mental Health undertakes various activities to improve services provided to children and their families. Areas with a need for improvement are discovered through:
  • child and family feedback
  • regular auditing
  • incident review and evaluation
  • monitoring and evaluating success of new improvements.
