REDcap workshops

Facilitated by Telethon Kids Institute's Biometrics Team

These workshops are for Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), Telethon Kids Institute, and Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) based staff.

The workshops provide a hands on approach for researchers wanting to learn how to build and manage projects within REDCap or further develop skills in some of REDCap's more advanced features.

All REDCap workshop sessions are held on a Tuesdays 12:30pm.

Sessions available:

REDcap basics: An introduction to project set-up

This workshop will offer an introduction to building databases in REDCap and will cover basic concepts and best practises to equip researchers in building a database for their research project.

This workshop will be most useful to anyone building a new project in REDCap and those who have been tasked with managing or maintaining an existing database.

Intermediate REDcap: Beyond the basics

This level offers a more comprehensive look at creating a database and using surveys, and will build upon the topics in the REDCap Basics workshop, enabling attendees to utilise the advanced functionality that REDCap offers.

Those attending this workshop should be familiar with navigating and using REDCap for project set-up and will be most beneficial to those who have identified an upcoming need for the advanced functionality covered in this workshop.

Pitch your project idea

Pitch your Project Idea is an initiative of the Telethon Clinical Research Centre (TCRC) and CAHS Research Education Program (Department of Child Health Research) staff get valuable feedback on research ideas, prior to research protocol development. Early expert input increases the chance of a successful and meaningful project with impact.

The sessions format includes a quick presentation of a research idea with on the day feedback from a panel including senior researchers, epidemiologists, and biostatisticians provided in a friendly and supportive environment. All child health research ideas are welcome.

All you need to do is provide your name, project title and talk for a maximum of seven minutes (no slides required)!

These sessions represent a great opportunity to help clarify a research idea and decide whether to pursue it as a project.

Sessions were run during 2019, with 2020 moving to a one-on-one drop-in session for Research Development.

CAHS Ethics and Governance Workshops

Facilitated by the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) Ethics and Governance Office

Ever had a question related to the review and approval of your research project? Bring your questions and leave with a better understanding of the review process and how to approach it.

Good Clinical Practice Question and Answer Forum

Facilitated by the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) Ethics and Governance Office, Department of Child Health Research

This question and answer forum with staff from the CAHS Research Ethics Office is part of an initiative to develop a deeper understanding of the research ethics review process and good clinical practice requirements.

The forum is interactive, and encourages exchanging ideas and information about the principles of the GCP and how they are applied to the everyday conduct of research, with particular reference to children.
