Medication information

For some children and adolescents, medications are prescribed to control and manage neurological conditions.

Some medications used to treat neurological conditions can only be prescribed by neurologists. However, many others, can be prescribed by general paediatricians and general practitioners (GPs).

Please also note that if your child is under the care of other PCH teams, you should contact the relevant team for specific prescription needs.

Your GP is also a core member of your child’s health care team, and you are encouraged to develop a relationship with a doctor in the community.

This doctor will be updated on your child’s care and management after visits to the hospital and can therefore assist with medication prescriptions when needed.

Using a consistent pharmacist in the community will also support your child’s care and management. Pharmacists in the community are an excellent resource for all medication related matters, including medication supply and education.

In the event you have run out of repeats and are unable to obtain a new prescription urgently, community pharmacies may dispense an owing supply in some cases. You should explore this option with your preferred community pharmacist.

What to expect from PCH Neurology regarding medication prescriptions
