Healthy Weight Service

Who we are

Our experienced, specialist team offers a range of family-based lifestyle change programs that promote a long-term healthy lifestyle. We provide evidence based education and advice that is safe and effective to assist young people to manage their weight in a healthy way.

Our team value working together with parents/carers and young people to set realistic, achievable lifestyle change goals. Through the Healthy Weight Service, families and young people have access to medical, dietetic, physiotherapy and mental health advice in the one setting.
Our interactive and educational programs involve regular appointments and support at PCH and are generally offered for a period of 6 to 12 months. We offer a range of group sessions, which include age-appropriate activities for children and young people while parents/carers meet with Healthy Weight Service staff and other families:
  • Busy Bodies Group (2 to 6 years): a child-friendly environment where children can play  whilst the team offer parents/carers advice and practical education to support a healthy lifestyle
  • Bodysmart Detectives (7 to 12 years): children learn about healthy eating and exercise through games and fun activities, whilst parents/carers work with the team in a separate small group
  • Bodysmart Group (12 to 16 years): teenagers and their families receive practical, evidence-based advice on adopting and maintaining a healthy diet and physical activity, including exercise in the PCH gym and pool under the guidance of a physiotherapist.
More individualised programs of care are offered to families if needed.
