The Rare Care Centre has a key focus on improving the knowledge and awareness of Rare Diseases across the current and future health workforce.

The Centre works in collaboration with national peak bodies, to develop educational content and raise awareness of rare diseases across multiple platforms.

The Centre has contributed to the following:

The Rare Care Centre has provided opportunities for upskilling GPs through updating the HealthPathways resource provided by WA Primary Health Alliance.

This platform assists GPs in early diagnosis, appropriate referral pathways and provides access to GP and family resources for disease management. The Rare Care Centre is recognised as an accredited GP training provider by WA General Practice Education and Training (WAGPET).

With a focus on the development of the future healthcare workforce, the Rare Care Centre regularly hosts student and graduate placements including:

  • medical student service-learning projects
  • a Graduate Development Program Officer
  • Master of Public Health student practicum
  • Colombo Scholarship recipients and
  • Perth Bio design students.

The Rare Care Centre has also partnered on the development of an online international medical student forum to promote learning, resource development and collaboration between international medical students.
